Drew Barrymore broke down in tears on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.
The beloved talk show host became emotional while speaking to the women of Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage, or “OLAUG” — a group of senior women ages 64 to 84 who dive for trash in Massachusetts.
The group’s founder, Susan Baur, sat in the audience as she explained to Barrymore and co-host Ross Mathews how their club came to be.
“It really began when I was 64 years old and I started swimming in ponds because I realized at 64 that I was gonna get old no matter how fit I stayed and I couldn’t imagine being happy and old,” she said. “Because, for me, being happy — I want to be self-reliant, I want to be strong, I want to be in control.”
But the more Baur swam in the pond, the more she befriended its wildlife.
“These turtles would come up and after three or four years, I knew them,” she said. “They would come up to my hands. They would sit on my head and bask. They would follow me around.”
According to Baur, she began to notice the turtles’ world “getting more and more crowded” as tourists continued infiltrating the area, which inspired her to clean up the pond.
“So, I started in 2017, got a few people, few of the originals, we cleaned it up and then more and more people wanted to come because we’d found a better form of happiness and following your joy,” Baur concluded.

When the camera panned back to Barrymore and Mathews at the Drew’s News desk, the former was visibly crying. “I see you getting emotional,” Mathews pointed out to the actress, who left her seat to hug Baur.
The best part? As Barrymore sobbed her way through their prolonged embrace, Mathews awkwardly stood there in his jean shorts that he wore for the segment prior.
“I’m still in my jorts,” he joked amid the touching moment.
