Most people have photo albums to look back on their life — but Drew Barrymore, who has been in the limelight since she was a child, has People magazine to remind her of her milestones.
On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress-turned-talk show host invited People editor-in-chief Wendy Naugle to the Drew’s News desk to discuss the magazine’s 50th anniversary issue, which puts Barrymore and other icons like Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on the cover.
For Barrymore, the special edition marks her 15th time on the cover of People. The revelation prompted her to pull out all of her past covers one by one.
“I mean, like, here’s one, here’s two, here’s three, here’s four, five. Oh, there’s another one. Wait, that’s my very first,” she explained while showing off the photo of herself, Ricky Schroder and Henry Thomas from a 1984 cover.
“We’ve got a little Teen People,” she said as she continued to flip through the different issues. “I got married. Oh my God, I’m in love. I got married again. This one is one of my favorites because it represents the [Drew Barrymore Show]. Oh! I’m in a bikini and I’m with a boy. And oh my God, somehow I made it on the most beautiful [edition].”
Barrymore then explained why she holds the magazine so close to her heart.

“Every milestone of my life, both personally and professionally, I have celebrated with People magazine,” she said. “It has been the place that I can go to to explain what I’m going through in life when things are not easy, when I’m getting married and having children, when I’m excited about advocating for a show or a project I’m doing.”
Barrymore added, “There really isn’t any stage of my life where I haven’t been lucky enough to talk about that and be a part of the People magazine family. It’s a safe space for me and I have such deep respect for what People represents.”
