It’s a safe bet that this parlay didn’t go over well with New Yorkers.
Late on Sunday, as the Giants were getting thrashed by the Cowboys, DraftKings offered a pre-made parlay featuring the New York teams competing in a poor-taste parlay.
The tagline on top of a Jets, Mets and Yankees parlay said “Never Forget,” and “Bet these New York teams to win tonight on 9/11.”
The app has since pulled the parlay, but the sportsbook’s attempt to use the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, to bring in a few bettors and make a quick buck did not go over well with fans.
“No way DraftKings did a ‘Never Forget 9/11’ parlay,” one X user wrote on the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“DraftKings with the latest reminder: you don’t ever need to force your brand into a national tragedy to get attention,” another user posted.
“We sincerely apologize for the featured parlay that was shared briefly in commemoration of 9/11,” the company said in a statement. “We respect the significance of this day for our country and especially for the families of those who were directly affected.”
To make things worse, the bet was paying out at +651, and that isn’t even a good bet.
Fair value calculates these three bets at +682 on FanDuel, so DraftKings is putting this pre-made parlay together at substantially worse odds, which was giving the fair market odds.
The odds on DraftKings are listed below, with what the price should have been.
The pre-made parlay comes in at $.10 cents worse than the true odds if you tap on the pre-made parlay.
Jets +105, Yankees +110, Mets -130 = +661
The FanDuel odds are also listed below, with the prices for the parlay.
Jets +114, Yankees +108, Mets -132 = +682
Of course, each sportsbook has its own way of making money, with parlays becoming a significant moneymaker.
This pre-made parlay could’ve used a different name, perhaps not referencing a national tragedy where thousands of Americans lost their lives.
