Don Lemon did not hold back during a recent appearance on Kara Swisher’s podcast, in which he admitted he felt “vindicated” by Chris Licht‘s removal from CNN in June.

Licht, who was then the CEO of CNN, was let go after The Atlantic published a damning story detailing the internal turmoil happening under Licht’s leadership as employees were unhappy with how the network fumbled a town hall with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

“Read the story, and you speak to the people who are there, and I think people get what happened,” Lemon said. “All you have to do is read The Atlantic story. Read the subsequent stories that came out, and you know, how it played out, and they are gone now. So do I feel vindicated in that sense? yes, I do.”

Lemon was fired this past April after almost 17 years working at the network.

The news anchor expressed how unhappy he was with how Licht and the network handled the comments he made on air about presidential candidate Nikki Haley, in which he said said she was not “in her prime.” He claimed he was “never allowed to address the issue on the air. I wish that I could but I was never allowed to.”

He went on to praise Licht’s predecessor, Jeff Zucker, who he claims would have handled the situation better.

“He was very supportive of us, and he wanted us to, not necessarily to be provocative, but just be ourselves. And if we got something wrong, we apologized, we explained it and he supported us and we moved on,” Lemon said. “It doesn’t have to be the end of the world or a big issue, unless you are looking for a reason to get rid of someone.”

Lemon said that he expects “to have a voice” in the next 14 months, teasing some possible next steps for his career.

As he’s said in recent interviews, he maintained that he isn’t in a rush to get back to work. Though it’s unclear what he has planned next, Lemon told Swisher he certainly doesn’t want to “keep preaching to a diminishing audience.”

“I don’t have to rush back to work. It’s a good time for me to figure it out. I just don’t want my voice to be lost over the next 14 months,” he said.
