NextImg:Does ‘The Meg 2’ Have an End Credit Scene?

Forget Barbie and Oppenheimer, because Meg 2: The Trench opens in theaters this weekend.

Hey, sometimes you go to the movies to reconcile with the complex hubris of a man who invented the Atomic bomb, and sometimes you go to the movies to see a big shark go chomp. Life’s like this!

Directed by Ben Wheatley, this sequel to 2018’s The Meg promises an even bigger, chonkier “Megalodon” monster, aka the extinct species of shark that used to roam the oceans. Jason Statham reprises his role as Jonas Taylor, a rescue diver tasked with saving humanity from the terrors of the sea. But this time around, there may be something lurking in the deep that’s even more dangerous than the Meg. That’s right: It’s a good ol’ fashioned monster-vs-monster battle.

But you don’t need me to summarize the movie, given that you’ve just watched it in a movie theater and then Googled “Does The Meg 2 have an end credits scene?” on your phone. So let’s cut to the chase.

The Meg 2 does not have an end credits scene. The Meg 2 also does not have a mid-credits scene. There is no additional footage at the end of The Meg 2, because this is The Meg 2, and not a Marvel movie. Feel free to go use the bathroom and go home in peace.

That said, it’s still nice to watch the credits to check out the names of everyone who worked on the movie. It takes a village to build a Megalodon of that size!

The Meg 3 has not yet been confirmed. That said, director Ben Wheatley already has ideas for a third film. When asked about what The Meg 3 might look like in an interview with The Nerds of Color, Wheatley joked, “Well, if I told you, I’d have to kill you.” He then went on to say, “I think it would have to be like how Meg 2 sits with The Meg 1, The Meg 3 would sit with Meg 2. So we’d have to be bonkers massive action, like different environments, different creatures, more exosuits.”

In a separate interview with Total Film, Wheatley expressed his hopes to be able to make a third Meg movie. “You don’t want to talk about it until Meg 2 is out, but I hope so,” Wheatley said. “There’s a lot more to explore in that world. It’s very rich. The international-ness of it is very interesting.”

Whether The Meg 3 happens or not likely depends on how the film does at the box office this weekend. We’ll just have to wait and see.
