The Golden Bachelor stars Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist shocked the world today when they announced on Good Morning America that they are divorcing after three months of marriage. So, what does this mean for their future? Did they sign a prenup? Will they have to give back their rings? Well, they answered everything.
GMA’s Juju Chang sat down with the couple for their breakup announcement in which they also revealed that Nist will not get to keep her Neil Lane diamond band.
“I think that’s the rule, I think I have to give this ring back. Sad to say,” she said, before Turner chimed in, “But, you know what, we don’t have to give back the memories.”
Following the interview, Chang confirmed that they did have a prenup and that they “highly recommend it to others.” They also told her they would continue to stay in each other’s lives and are “best friends.” Plus, Nist gave some sage words of advice to whoever becomes The Golden Bachelorette: “Be authentic, be yourself.”
Turner and Nist got engaged in the season finale of The Golden Bachelor’s debut season. They later tied the knot in a televised special that aired on Jan. 4, 2024.
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Turner said on today’s broadcast of GMA.
He continued, “The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families. So we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to, to live apart.”
The sad news came weeks after TMZ reported that they were still not living together, with Turner remaining at his lake house in Indiana, while Nist was in New Jersey.
Despite their split, they both insisted they were “still in love,” noting that they will continue their search for the right one. Nist also offered advice to those who were inspired by their decision to find love later in life. She said, “We stay don’t give up. We say stay in it. Stay hopeful because we are.”
The Golden Bachelor is currently streaming on Hulu.
