NextImg:Dodgers made late push for Blake Snell in MLB free agency before Giants deal

Word is the Dodgers made a late play for Blake Snell before he opted for the rival Giants. As it was, L.A.’s winter was an all-timer: Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Teoscar Hernandez, James Paxton, more.

The effort shows they still have money to spend, though.

MLB approached Angel Hernandez about retiring three weeks ago, and when he showed some interest in a buyout, MLB and its most hated umpire worked it out in a couple weeks.

Good job by MLB getting it done. He was a needless distraction.

Kodai Senga’s arm issue shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Mets were able to sign their ace to a $75 million deal (almost exactly one-fifth what L.A. paid Yamamoto) because he had a troublesome MRI exam, as reported by The Post after the signing.

The Braves wisely signed Adam Duvall after a question about Ronald Acuña’s right knee arose in spring. (It’s his left knee that needs repair now.)

They need an outfielder, but Duvall allows them to wait to see if they need to hold prospect capital for pitchers later.

Luis Robert wasn’t made available in winter, and there’s no pressure on the White Sox to move him.

Erick Fedde and Garrett Crochet are valuable Chisox trade pieces.

If the Blue Jays do trade either Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Bo Bichette — and it won’t be easy for them — one big factor may be the lack of progress made in previous contract talks.

The Jays could dangle George Springer but would need to pay most of his $25M salary. The Braves are a potential fit.

Brian Cashman’s trade for Luis Gil (for Jake Cave) might be his best yet.

Funny, I haven’t heard many complaints about Cashman lately.
