Given that it’s been three months since we last saw the Doctor Odyssey crew, we’re hoping for big things for the show’s next episodes. No sweat, the stars say expectations will be met and exceeded.

Chatting with Decider ahead of the midseason premiere, stars Joshua Jackson, Don Johnson, and Sean Teale teased an unforgettable second half of Season 1, somehow upping the ante from the first eight episodes. That’s no easy task, especially since Episode 6, “I Always Cry At Weddings,” featured a threesome between Max (Jackson), Tristan (Teale), and Avery (Phillipa Soo). That ménage à trois ultimately ended up in an unexpected pregnancy for Avery and a cliffhanger for the audience as the trio weighed their options.

The stakes and the excitement only fueled Jackson, Teale, and Johnson, who shared with Decider that questions — especially ones related to Avery’s bun in the oven — will finally be answered over the course of the next couple of episodes.

“I think the thing that we set up at the cliffhanger of the season, of where this relationship dynamic — this trio, this throuple — goes, that to me is the meat of the second half [of Season 1] for us,” Jackson said. When pressed on what that might look like, the Dawson’s Creek alum simply said, “New phone, who this?”

Tackling the unplanned pregnancy is certainly not the only thing ahead for The Odyssey’s medical crew, though. After an Ozempic-addicted bride, rubber duck enthusiasts, and noses falling off in pools in the first eight episodes, Teale teased things will only become more shocking and silly as the season goes on.

“We get to add onto the fun and the ludicrous and the shiny,” he said of the next batch of episodes, which begin airing on ABC on March 6. “We have variety, but we have that meat at the center of it all.”

That starts with a two-part episode, “Shark Attack,” which features one of The Odyssey’s crew members having to fight for their life after coming face to face with a shark while surfing. According to an episode description, the medical team must work together to save a friend and coworker as tensions surrounding Avery’s pregnancy continue to bubble.

Since November, fans have had to twiddle their thumbs at home, waiting for Episode 9 to finally provide some closure on whether or not a baby will soon be joining the ranks of the luxury cruise ship. At the time, Decider spoke with Soo who smartly opted to keep her answers vague about what would be coming for her character, but the actress did share some insight on the direction of Avery’s overall arc for Season 1.

“I’m really proud and honored to be an artist and to have the opportunity to bring truth and humanity — as much truth and humanity as possible — to this story of a woman’s conversation with herself about what choices she wants to make about her own body,” she shared.

Even if the two-parter is a flop, fans of the Ryan Murphy-produced dramedy will at least have a crossover event to look forward to on the horizon. Earlier this week, ABC confirmed that 9-1-1‘s own Athena Grant (Angela Bassett) will board The Odyssey for a special episode on March 20.

It’s Casino Week aboard The Odyssey, and unexpected guest Athena Grant suspects two passengers are targeting the ship’s vault,” the logline for Episode 11, “Casino Week,” reads.“Enlisting Max’s help, Athena raises the stakes in a dangerous game where not everyone will end up with a winning hand.”

Doctor Odyssey returns with its midseason premiere on March 6 at 9 p.m. ET. The first eight episodes are currently streaming on Hulu.
