Doc Rivers’ daughter had one response to the news of the coach’s firing — as well as some other NBA decisions made this offseason.
Callie quote tweeted ESPN analyst and former Nets GM Bobby Marks, who listed the teams with the most wins over the past three seasons:
“1. Phoenix 2. Milwaukee 3. Philadelphia”
Callie, who is married to Nets guard Seth Curry, responded with “hate to see it.”
Like the top two teams on that list, the 76ers decided to fire their head coach after a disappointing postseason.
Philadelphia lost 112-88 to Boston in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Sunday.
Followers consoled Rivers-Curry, 34, with replies like “when do owners start blaming the players instead of the coaches” and shared their admiration for Rivers’ success as head coach.
Mike Budenholzer and Monty Williams were axed by the Bucks and Suns, respectively, earlier this offseason.
Rivers, 61, has 154 wins with the Sixers since he took over in 2020.
The team has made it to the second round of playoffs in all three seasons with Rivers as head coach, but have been eliminated by the Hawks, Heat and Celtics to fall short of the Eastern Conference Finals each time.
Rivers won an NBA championship with the Celtics in 2008, but has not reached a conference final since.
This includes seven seasons with the Clippers, who were led by Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, and the past three with the 76ers.
Philadelphia has had current MVP Joel Embiid throughout that run and James Harden the past two seasons.
There were reports that Harden did not enjoy playing for Rivers.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the 76ers are expected to look at Budenholzer, Williams, Sam Cassell, Mike D’Antoni, Nick Nurse and Frank Vogel to replace Rivers.
Rivers Curry, a former Florida Gators volleyball player, is an active commentator on NBA games on her Twitter account, often sharing live opinions while watching games.
Callie married Seth in September of 2019 and the couple has two children together — daughter Carter and son Cash.
Doc’s son, Austin, is currently a guard on the Timberwolves.
