Noteworthy items during the Yankees’ spring training practice on Wednesday in Tampa:
DJ LeMahieu faced Gerrit Cole in a live batting practice showdown, hitting a pair of line drives off curveballs before Cole returned the favor with a strikeout in their third matchup.
In Ian Hamilton’s second inning of live batting practice, Gleyber Torres and Anthony Volpe hit hard ground balls right back at Hamilton.
The reliever avoided damage, though, by snagging Torres’ with his glove and jumping over Volpe’s.
Top pitching prospects Will Warren and Chase Hampton threw live batting practice and faced Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton, Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham.

“They definitely went up against the big boys today and looked the part,” manager Aaron Boone said.
The Yankees continue full-squad workouts at Steinbrenner Field ahead of Saturday’s Grapefruit League opener against the Tigers in Lakeland, Fla.
