NextImg:‘Disgusting’ parents gift tween Slim Tea: ‘It’s something I needed!’

A video of parents trying to encourage their tween daughter to shed some kilos by gifting her Slim Tea as a Christmas present is causing outrage among viewers on social media.

On the 2nd of January this year, the dad Ernest, recorded the minute-long clip of his kids opening their Christmas presents.

As his daughter, Jaleel, struggles to open the package, he asks her what she got as the other children watch on.

Initially, Jaleel thinks it’s an iPhone, like her sister Jada’s gift. However, it soon becomes obvious that it is far from that.

I am BEYOND REPULSED by these parents. Not only gifting their child #slimtea for #Christmas but then posting this. #dobetter #greenscreen #viraltiktok

Jada helps Jaleel open the package and then Jaleel quickly recognises what’s inside.

Upon realising it’s Slim Tea, known to make people lose weight temporarily due to its laxative effect, she becomes immediately upset.

While her siblings shake their heads at the gift, sadly it seems that Jaleel has internalised her parent’s fatphobia and remarks, “It’s something that I needed.”

Hundreds of people voiced their repulsion in comments on the since-removed video, criticising it for seeking views at the cost of their daughter’s well-being.

“Do y’all not think that it is absolutely insane that somebody gave this child slim tea??” one user asked. “She’s like eight or seven. BLAME THE PARENTS!” one top comment said.

Another simply wrote, “That’s so cruel.”

Her older siblings appeared annoyed at the gift.

Meanwhile, this person made the point, “If your child is ‘overweight’ and you genuinely want to help them. Do fun activities with them that get them moving, cook healthy meals together and genuinely try to help them build a healthy relationship with food without putting them down. Gifting a child slim tea is so damaging and downright disgusting!”

Someone else reiterated: “You can teach your child healthy habits without traumatising them!”

“Not only is it bad they gave it to her, but recording it and posting it online for the world to see and judge her is beyond bad parenting,” a different woman concluded.
