It’s a fine dining food fight.
The owners of a high-end Hamptons steakhouse are hitting back after two TikTok influencers accused the eatery of providing “the worst $2,000 meal they ever had.”
Meg Radice and Audrey Jongens, who run the review page “The VIP List,” slammed Mavericks Montauk in a viral video shared on Tuesday — but a rep for the restaurant responded by claiming the content creators’ friend threatened to “give them a bad review if they didn’t receive free food.”
In “The VIP List” clip, which has already clocked up over 730,000 views, Radice alleges that she and her pals waited three hours for appetizers before being served a series of “flavorless” dishes.
She additionally claimed that a friend’s dress was “ruined” when a seafood tower collapsed and that her party was “hit with a $2,000 bill” at the end of the disastrous dining experience.
However, the rep for Mavericks Montauk disputed all the allegations in an interview with The Independent.
The restaurant says they declined to give the influencers any comped meals and said the women inflated the amount of money that they were eventually charged ($1,326 before tip).
The 76-second video features footage of the food served to the TikTok stars accompanied by narration of Radice.
“I know hospitality in the Hamptons isn’t the best, but this was criminal,” she seethes. “It’s such a shame because it was a beautiful venue.”
The content creator claimed she was “off-duty” and wasn’t planning on documenting the dining experience, but after an alleged two-and-a-half hour wait to order an appetizer “all bets were off.”
“This is considered chicken with caviar, it looks like a Chad [slang for frat boy] made it,” Radice raged. “Someone alert McCormick because they clearly need as restock of seasoning, every dish was flavorless.”
“The steak was okay, but everything is okay when it’s drowned in butter,” she sassily added.
Meanwhile, the TikTokker claimed that “the seafood tower collapsed on its own and ruined our friend’s dress.” She said the restaurant later deducted that item from the bill after the five hours they spent there.
Mavericks Montauk said they deducted the seafood tower from the bill but told The Independent that it “arrived at the table fully intact” and that the group was “playing with the structure, shaking it until it fell over.”
They also disputed that it took the party three hours to receive their appetizers, saying the group was in and out within that time frame.
A rep told The Independent that the influencers were seated at 8:22 p.m. and paid at 11:18 p.m.
However, Radice and Jongens are sticking to their story and deny a friend of theirs ever attempted to blackmail the steakhouse in a bid for free food.
“The goal of ‘The VIP List’ is to go and have an authentic experience and let their viewers know how it really went,” a spokesperson for the influencers said. “They’re truthful about everything whether it’s amazing or horrible or just not worth the price. They are classified as comedic food critics, so the tonality and delivery is apart of the brand.”
