Rookie running back sensation De’Von Achane is expected to miss multiple weeks with a knee injury that he sustained against the Giants, according to multiple reports.
Achane is visiting with doctors to determine whether he will be placed on injured reserve, which would sideline him for at least four games.
If the Dolphins choose that path it would lead right into the team’s Week 10 bye, giving Achane an extra week to recover.
For now, Achane is considered week-to-week while he gets a second opinion from doctors.
The Dolphins, though, will soon get Jeff Wilson Jr. back as they plan to open the practice window for the veteran.
Wilson was dealing with a hip injury suffered late in the preseason and started the season on injured reserve, but is expected back on the field in a couple of weeks.
Coach Mike McDaniel played it coy with reporters on Monday, saying that Achane suffered a knee injury in the game on Sunday but refused to answer whether he was getting an MRI exam when asked.
“There’s various things that he’s undergoing, handshakes as well, high fives. I think from all accounts, he had a good breakfast and lunch,” McDaniel said.
For now, Raheem Mostert will once again take the lion’s share of the carries for Miami.
The injury against the Giants happened late in the game and was not immediately apparent to fans.
The speedy Achane is averaging an astounding 12.1 yards per carry with five touchdowns through the first four games of his career.
The Dolphins selected Achane in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M.
