The Yankees should get a boost to their bullpen on the upcoming road trip, with closer Devin Williams expected to return from the paternity list Friday in Pittsburgh and right-hander Ian Hamilton set to return from an injured list stint caused by the effects of a viral illness by the time they get to Detroit on Monday. 

Williams’ return could come at the expense of Adam Ottavino, who is expected to be designated for assignment Friday, according to sources. 

The veteran right-hander signed with the Yankees when Williams went on paternity leave and retired two of the three batters he faced in his second appearance with the team this time around. 

But they need a roster spot for Williams, and the 39-year-old seems likely to go.
