NextImg:Deshaun Watson burner account conspiracies fly after dreadful Browns game

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson finds himself caught in the crossfire after another tough loss.

Internet sleuths believe Watson created a burner account, @Gainsvillesown, after the Browns’ 26-22 loss to Pittsburgh on Monday night.

The account’s handle references Watson’s home of Gainesville, Ga. — albeit spelled wrong — and defended the quarterback, who struggled Monday, completing 22-of-40 passes for 235 yards with one touchdown and a pick-six.

His late fumble was returned for a touchdown and gave the Steelers the lead for good.

A disappointing loss fuels frustration from fans, and some took to X (formerly Twitter) to lay on the scrutiny.

The “Gainsvillesown” account, however, was not among those laying the blame on Watson.

The account shifted the blame to anyone else besides Watson, including the offensive line and head coach Kevin Stefanski. The offensive line allowed six sacks Monday.

One user wrote, “Watson look [sic] kinda rusty. Still. Shocked about that.”

“He got sacked in one second how he look rusty,” the “Fred Watson” user wrote back.

The account was also quick to jump in to respond to a clip that was posted from Watson’s postgame press conference.

“Did all he could tonight,” the account wrote.

There do appear to be some holes in the conspiracy theory that Watson created this burner account to defend himself.

The account “appeared” to be created during the “Monday Night Football” doubleheader, giving Watson a very credible alibi, according to Heavy.

As of Wednesday morning, it appears the account’s earliest tweet was posted right after midnight on Tuesday.

Although internet trolls remain relentless, the account is most likely an avid fan or close friend of Watson, rather than a spur-of-the-moment creation by Watson.

While he had a social media defender going to bat for him, Watson had no problem owning up to his struggles.

He also shoved a referee during the game but was not penalized nor ejected.

“We’re not going to put it on anyone else,” Watson said. “You put it on me. I can take the full blame, I can take the criticism and I’m going to do that.”

The Browns will seek redemption Sunday as they host the Titans (1-1).
