NextImg:Dems’ pay-to-park scheme: Letters to the Editor — March 18, 2023

The Issue: A state Senate plan to require a monthly $30 residential parking permit for New Yorkers.

We’re told the proposed congestion-pricing cash-grab is needed to fund the MTA, and now we hear we might have to pay just to park, too (“Get ready for fee parking,” March 16). You’ll have to pay wherever you park.

With all the money going into the MTA, you have to wonder how it faces a “historic budget crisis.”

A thorough audit of the MTA is needed, not yet another tax imposed on us by state Sen. Michael Gianaris and his greedy progressive colleagues. They’re doing their best to make New York as unaffordable and unlivable as possible.

Gary Mottola

So now it’s parking permits. All for the bottomless pit of the no-accountability MTA.

How about collecting the billions stolen via COVID fraud first?

And if the city has enough funds for hotels, medical care, food, clothing, college tuition, etc. for illegal immigrants, how can it possibly consider charging hard-working citizens for parking permits or congestion pricing?

Robert Leavy

Middle Village

How much is the city charging restaurants for their outdoor shanties that are making streets all over the city look like crap?

When is the city going to force the restaurants to remove them? They are using up street space for free that could be used by car owners.

I remain, as always, disgusted in Soho, surrounded by poorly constructed restaurant shanties.

Richard Nash Gould

Manhattan

The Democratic Party (the party of crime) has come up with a new fleece-the-public tax-raising scheme: parking permits for certain areas in Manhattan.

This harebrained scheme will do almost nothing to improve the parking situation. Along with congestion pricing, we can all expect higher taxes.

Not to mention President Biden’s open-door policy of allowing everyone into the country. That means we pay for illegal immigrants’ schooling, food and rent.

We will soon see a time where we have to take second jobs just to pay our taxes. We have to vote these socialists/communists out of office. Enough already.

The Issue: The NYPD’s crackdown on violations of the Standards and Assessment section.

I hope that the NYPD officials will ease up on some of the infractions that they are giving to the rank-and-file officers (“NYPD Do’s And Donuts,” March 14).

We need more officers now than ever — as you could see by the other Post articles about the gentleman who was robbed at gunpoint at the 34th Street and Herald Square station at 6 p.m. (which had previously been a safe area and a safe time of day) and also by the recent attack on a young African-American autistic man by a group of teenage racists.

We must all do everything we can to show police officers how much we appreciate them for all the sacrifices that they make.

John Francis Fox

Sunnyside

The NYPD has always been a semi-military outfit with rules, regulations and appearance standards. As a former NYPD supervisor, I inspected precinct platoons for many years.

Its important cops look professional. It gives the community a sense of security and respect. Looking sloppy degrades the image of the NYPD.

However, except for egregious violations, stern warnings can work with follow-up.

The NYPD Standards and Assessment section seems bent on finding fault to justify its un-needed existence.
