The Issue: Democrats’ response to Rep. Jim Jordan’s House Judiciary Committee hearing on Manhattan crime.
Democrats are challenging the House Judiciary Committee hearing, claiming it was a political stunt and citing murder statistics as being lower in New York City than in a number of large cities (“Jordan Is Right About NY Crime,” Editorial, April 18).

Yet crime can’t be narrowly defined as murder only: What about the other serious crime indicators in New York?
Assaults, burglaries, car thefts and home invasions have all contributed to a diminution of public safety. It is clear that whether on the subway or the streets, particularly at night, residents no longer feel safe.

Kudos to the witnesses who had loved ones killed or injured who testified at the hearing.
The Democrats on the committee insulted them, adding more pain and suffering by demeaning their horrific experiences.
Unfortunately, nothing will change and the body count will just increase.

Again, the New York politicians and media have hurt the victims by completely deflecting from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s injustice (“Standing up vs. ‘enablers,’ ” April 18).
The issue is not about crime rates being up or down, or comparison to other high-crime cities.
The issue is about Bragg excusing criminals, reducing their charges and there being no justice for the victims.

Rep. Jerry Nadler should be ashamed of trying to deflect with no regard for New York’s victims of violent crime (or their families). He was elected to represent New Yorkers, not to advocate for Bragg’s soft-on-crime injustice.

What the Democrats did at the hearings held by Jordan, who brought in crime victims as witnesses, was a total disgrace.
All the Democrats mentioned former President Donald Trump. What does Trump have to do with crimes in New York? Or why thousands of New Yorkers have left?

Let me be clear — I’m worried about crime in New York City under Bragg’s leadership.

But Rep. Jim Jordan, a congressman from Ohio no less, chose to take on our issues through his very public House Judiciary Committee field hearing on crime in Manhattan. What about the other boroughs?
Anyway, this was a ridiculous and unhelpful charade, as Jordan is absolutely the worst person to lead and lecture us on this issue critical to our city.
Specifically, it’s well-documented that he allegedly turned a blind eye and obstructed testimony to a crime on a grand scale when he was a wrestling coach at Ohio State — the abuse of students by a doctor at the university, including of some of his wrestlers. Jordan has no credibility.

Crime is out of control in the five boroughs, while the mayor says serious crime has gone down and New York is the safest city in the country.
The politicians having the special House hearing to address the sad state of crime are correct to point out Bragg’s bad handling of criminals.
He lets go of the worst of them right after they are arrested or fails to prosecute them. Worse is that those defending themselves against criminals are being arrested.

It’s about time this is brought to light because honest people don’t want to raise their children here.

I remember when, as a conservative, I could still respect Rep. Nadler as an idealistic, authentic liberal.

How pathetic it is that in his dotage, he’s turned himself into a most awkward political hack. It simply doesn’t suit him.

Nadler and Sen. Chuck Schumer care nothing about the rise of anti-Semitism, yet they want the Jewish vote. They speak from both sides of their mouths.

These two misanthropes are a perfect example of why there should be term limits.
