Deion Sanders says that he does not see Colorado as a stepping stone to join the NFL coaching ranks.

Sanders appeared on “The Rich Eisen Show” on Friday and cut off Eisen when the host said that NFL teams might come “knocking”.

“I would never do that,” Sanders said, as covered by ProFootballTalk.

“I love college. I love that the young men are still impressionable. They’re not so financially wealthy that they can’t hear you. At the next level, some of these guys make so much money they can’t hear. They can’t hear or they can’t see the things that they need to see and hear.

“I would have a hard time motivating a man that makes upwards of 20 and 30 and sometimes 40 million dollars to go out there and do your job. I got a problem with that.”

Sanders also indicated he wouldn’t have the patience needed to manage professional football players.

“I would start with 53 and come out of the locker room at halftime with about 38,” Sanders said.

Sanders was asked a similar question on ESPN’s “First Take” on Friday and said, “I’m not going to the NFL. I like it here in Boulder.”

Colorado is a surprising 2-0 with Sanders at the helm, including an opening-week upset at TCU where the Buffaloes were heavy underdogs.

Earlier this week, FS1 host Colin Cowherd made the case that Sanders coaching in the NFL is not such a far-fetched idea.

“Colorado wasn’t Deion’s primary destination when he got into coaching,” Cowherd said.

“It’s not a college football blue blood or recruiting hotbed. It doesn’t feel like this will be Deion Sanders’ final landing spot. Deion Sanders and Colorado feels like one of those fun, really brief stories, like ‘Linsanity’ with the New York Knicks or Butler back-to-back championship games in college basketball or McGwire and Sosa.”

Cowherd added that this doesn’t feel like a “marriage that lasts forever” and opined that he believed there’s a better chance Sanders winds up in the NFL than not.

On Saturday, No. 18 Colorado hosts Colorado State in a game that Rams head coach Jay Norvell made “personal” by calling out Sanders’ press conference wardrobe.
