NextImg:Deion Sanders undergoing four-hour procedure for blood clots in latest health worry

Deion Sanders is undergoing a procedure to address blood clots in his leg on Tuesday.

The Colorado head coach said Tuesday that the operation will take about four hours, but he expects to return to the Buffaloes’ practice field on Wednesday.

“I am having a procedure today,” Sanders said during a press conference on Tuesday. “Prayerfully I’ll be right back at practice tomorrow. It is what it is what. Found what we found. I have a wonderful team of doctors at UC Health and a team of wonderful trainers here. It has nothing to do with me working at the level and competing … it is hereditary. It is what it is. I trust God with all my heart.”

After Saturday’s loss to TCU, Sanders, 58, said he was “hurting like crazy” and that he believed he had more blood clots in his leg, adding that he had an appointment to get checked out on Monday.

He was seen sitting down on the Colorado sideline late in the game.

“Cat’s out of the bag, all right. I think I’ve got more blood clots,” Sanders said on Saturday. “It don’t make sense. I’m hurting like crazy. … I’m not getting blood to my leg. That’s why my leg is throbbing.”

The latest blood clot issue is another chapter in a long list of health troubles for the NFL legend.

Over the summer, Sanders went through treatment for bladder cancer

A section of Sanders’ intestine was also reconstructed to function as a bladder.

In 2021, Sanders had two toes on his left foot amputated because of blood clot issues while he was the head coach at Jackson State.

During his first year at Colorado in 2023, Sanders missed Pac-12 media day after he underwent a procedure to remove a blood clot from his right leg and another to straighten toes on his left foot.
