Deion Sanders spilled some tea about NFL teams that called about his son, Shedeur Sanders, before the quarterback’s fall to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The former Colorado Buffaloes star was selected 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns.
During Monday’s bonus episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Sanders discussed the advice he gave Shedeur in his rookie year and explained that the Eagles and the Ravens called him in April. Sanders did not share which day both teams reached out amid the draft, which took place from April 24-26.
“How in the world, they made a big deal out of — Philly called us on draft day,” Sanders told brothers Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, who spent his entire 13-season NFL career with the Eagles. “Uh, they didn’t mention that, huh? I just let the cat out of the bag. Philly called.”
Jason appeared shocked by his facial expression.
“No, it’s good. I didn’t know that,” the retired center said.
The Eagles selected quarterback Kyle McCord out of Syracuse with the 181st pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
“Baltimore [called] and the Browns,” Sanders continued. “They forget, I played for Baltimore, so [we’re cool]. So we understood that whole conversation, and he wanted to talk to Shedeur as well, he wanted to talk to me. And I put Shedeur on the phone and Shedeur — I don’t want to say how it went.
“But how in the world can somebody fault him for saying or thinking, ‘Why in the world would I go back up Lamar [Jackson] for 10 more years? Who comes in with that mindset?”
Shedeur played well in the Browns’ preseason opener — completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-10 win over the Panthers on Aug. 8.
He missed some time after injuring his oblique while throwing during joint practices with the Eagles on Aug. 13.
Shedeur struggled in the second half of Cleveland’s 19-17 win over the Rams in the preseason finale on Aug. 23. He finished 3 of 6 for just 14 yards and was sacked five times.
The elder Sanders predicts that his son’s time is coming sooner rather than later.
“But I’m like, ‘Son, you gotta be ready when it’s time. But when it’s time, you gonna know and it’s coming up,'” Sanders said. “I got a prediction, but I’m not telling anybody. I got a feeling when it’s gonna go down. But it’s gonna go down and he’s gonna get a shot.”

Shedeur was the second quarterback the Browns selected in the draft after Cleveland added former Oregon standout Dillon Gabriel at No. 94.
In addition to the rookies, the Browns’ quarterback room includes veteran starter Joe Flacco and Deshaun Watson, who will miss the 2025 season after re-tearing his Achilles in January.
