Defiant New York City Mayor Eric Adams is set to start busing migrants upstate Wednesday, creating a showdown with local pols who declared a state of emergency to try to block him.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus told The Post that City Hall informed him of the timeline Tuesday — fewer than 24 hours after Neuhaus issued an emergency declaration to halt the Big Apple’s plan to dump asylum-seekers at a local motel.

During another private afternoon call between the Adams administration and officials from Rockland County — which issued a similar declaration over the weekend — city officials said 30 migrants would be bused to Rockland and another 30 migrants to Orange on Wednesday, said a source with knowledge of the conversation.

“We are doing everything we can to squeeze every bit of space out of New York City,” an Adams aide assured the Rockland officials, according to the source.

GOP Rockland County Executive Ed Day had warned over the weekend that he already had cops deployed to thwart any incoming migrants sent from the Big Apple — adding, “Mr. Adams, you can try to run us over, [and] I will reach up and grab you by the throat for the people of Rockland County.”

Neuhaus, also a Republican, revealed earlier Tuesday that Adams contacted him last week to say the city was going to pay for about 60 migrants to stay at the Crossroads Hotel in Newburgh in Orange.

Under the counties’ state-of-emergency declarations, hotels, motels and other short-term rentals in the region are prohibited from accepting asylum-seekers bused there.

Mayor Eric Adams will proceed with his plan to send migrants to Orange and Rockland counties despite objections from the county executives.

Newburgh Town Supervisor Gil Piaquadio said Tuesday that town codes already prohibit hotels or motels from being used as shelters there.

“A shelter is not permitted at the Crossroads Hotel,” he said in a statement.

“The Town of Newburgh has a litany of procedures for outside governments to follow when these outside governments, like New York City, propose a use in another jurisdiction. New York City still needs to follow these procedures.”

He added that motels and hotels in the town were given hand-delivered notices Tuesday informing them of the code, as well as a warning that local officials will “take whatever corrective action is necessary should the Town Code be violated.”

Piaquadio said he, too, had been in contact with Adams in recent days — and that Hizzoner had agreed to delay any relocation of migrants until his concerns, mostly tied to safety, were addressed.

It wasn’t clear if his questions were answered before the decision was made to bus the migrants Wednesday.

City Hall did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.

A staffer at the Crossroads Hotel told The Post it was business as usual Tuesday — and there had been no warning from management about the arrival of migrants.

The front-desk receptionist said Tuesday that rooms were available for $144 plus tax, adding, “We’re pretty much sold out.

“If you go online or look on Facebook, the county has issued an emergency order, so nothing’s happening that we know of,” the worker said.

Locals ripped Adams’ move to dump the migrants in their town.

“New York City doesn’t want them, so they’re going to Orange County, and it happens to be in Newburgh,” said Ron Moore, who works at the Pilot truck stop across from the motel.

The city is also planning to send migrants to the Armoni Inn and Suites in Orangeburg.

“There are a lot of hard-working people, so personally housing people for free, food for free — I’m not a fan of it.

“We want the community to know that we’re not allowing them to just hang out here.”

Another employee, who only gave her first name, Ariana, added. “Why not send them to [another hotel] that’s not really that nice.”

“The Crossroads is a nice hotel, and they’re getting free support,” she said. “If we go over there and try to get a room, it’s like $150. I know we’re got a lot of homeless Americans. Why aren’t we helping them?”
