The horrific deaths of a Brooklyn mom and her 14-year-old daughter who were found slashed next to the family dog at their home may have been a murder-suicide, law-enforcement sources said Tuesday.
The bodies of 37-year-old Azalea Rivas and her teen daughter were discovered around 4:30 p.m. Monday when the woman’s worried boyfriend broke down the door and found the grisly scene, law enforcement sources told The Post.
Rivas was found lying on her back, with a slash wound to the face, in the living room of her New York Avenue apartment in Brooklyn’s Little Haiti – while her daughter was face down nearby with trauma to the head, the sources said.
The family dog was next to them with a bag over its head, according to sources.
Detectives and the city’s Medical Examiner’s Office have not made a determination on the deaths, but police sources said they are considering the possibility of a murder-suicide.
The dead woman’s boyfriend was questioned by cops but is not believed to be a suspect, sources said.
Police had been dispatched to the scene on Friday after a neighbor reported a possible family dispute shortly before 7:30 a.m. – but cops left when no one answered the door.
They returned Monday after the bodies were found.
A police source described the scene as particularly gruesome and bloody.
“I mean, when I call 911 I literally said it sounds like someone’s being killed,” said downstairs neighbor Steve Schor, who made the call to cops on Friday.
“I’ve never heard anyone get killed before except in the movies. But I can only imagine that’s what it would sound like,” Schor said.
“So you know, it caused us enough concern to call the cops and that’s what that’s you know, that’s what we found that.”
