Dead Boy Detectives has been canceled by Netflix after one season.
Season 1 of the teen mystery series, which Max originally ordered, premiered on April 25 and will now be the final season.
According to Variety, the show only spent three weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 for English-language series, peaking at #2 in Week 1 behind the platform’s hit series Baby Reindeer.
Based on the comics of the same name by Neil Gaiman, which are part of The Sandman Universe, Dead Boy Detectives starred George Rexstrew as Edwin Payne and Jayden Revri as Charles Rowland.
Edwin and Charles are “the brains” and “the brawn” behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency, which works to solve paranormal mysteries. The teenage duo are born decades apart and are now ghosts that have become best friends.
They face a number of challenges along the way including an evil witch, Hell and Death, who they must escape from. Along the way, they enlist the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura).
The 8-episode series also starred Jenn Lyon, Briana Cuoco, Ruth Connell, Lukas Gage, and David Iacono.
Dead Boy Detectives was developed for television by Steve Yockey, who penned the first episode and served as co-showrunner alongside Beth Schwartz.
Greg Berlanti, Yockey, Schwartz, Jeremy Carver, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, and Gaiman served as executive producers of the series from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Lee Toland Krieger directed and executive produced the first episode.
