Dave Portnoy made a shocking announcement about his health Wednesday night.
The Barstool Sports founder, who was wearing a bandage on the left side of his neck, announced on “The Dozens Trivia” he had cancer after he had teased earlier in the day on the “BFFs Pod” that he had the health battle.
“A lot of pressure. This is all that matters. We’ve been waiting for all season,” Portnoy, who was wearing a bandage on his neck, said of the trivia matchup. “I have cancer, by the way. No big deal.”
It’s not clear what kind of cancer Portnoy had or when he was diagnosed.
Portnoy, after the announcement, went on X to clarify he had beaten the unspecified cancer.
“I did have cancer. I beat it. It wasn’t the serious kind thank god. I can’t tell if [Rico] Bosco thinks cancer is funny or not,” Portnoy wrote on X with an accompanying video that showed him talking to Bosco and Dan Katz.
Bosco revealed he was unaware that Portnoy, 47, had been dealing with the health scare.
“Because I don’t make a big show of it,” Portnoy said in the video to Bosco, who was wearing a sling.
Earlier in the day, the “BFFs Pod” teased Wednesday’s episode with a clip with what appeared to be showing a cut on the same side of Portnoy’s neck that he later had bandages on during the trivia show.
When host Brianna LaPaglia asked Portnoy what the mark was on his neck he replied that it was cancer.
It’s not clear what treatment Portnoy has undergone.
