Full House star Dave Coulier has been nothing but candid about his cancer journey since announcing he had been diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in late 2024. In a new interview, the comedian and actor detailed how he prepared himself for what could come next, including the six painful rounds of chemotherapy that took a toll on his body.

Speaking to Parade, Coulier admitted that he’s keeping a “positive attitude,” but he has been realistic about the possible outcomes.

“I think everybody’s mind goes there,” he said. “It’s part of the reality of life. Like, ‘Wow, this is really serious’ and ‘What’s the worst that could happen?’ I’ve seen it so often in my family.”

His wife, Melissa, added that Coulier became disillusioned after the fifth round of chemotherapy, which he said gave him symptoms that “got progressively worse and worse and worse.”

“After [the fifth round of] chemo, he was like, ‘I don’t know if I could do this again,’” Melissa told the outlet. “He was like, ‘I’m prepared either way. If I die, I die. And if I can stay here, great. I want to.’ Those conversations were obviously so tough.”

Coulier, who completed his final round of chemotherapy in February, added that doctors did not find any more cancer cells when they did a PET scan halfway through his treatment.

“I don’t know how else to view this other than with a positive attitude,” Coulier said. “And especially because I’m in a position where I can inspire others. A negative attitude doesn’t inspire anybody. Positivity, though, can take you a long way.”

Coulier added that he’s also found some relief in his former Full House co-stars John Stamos and the late Bob Saget. He said Saget still “comes” to him in his dreams.

“I miss Bob so much. I truly had a brother [in him],” he said of the actor, later adding, “Yes, he comes to me in my dreams, and he always does something silly and foolish and makes me laugh. He would have called me every day.”

As for Stamos, Coulier and his good friend found themselves in some hot water when Stamos sported a bald cap in solidarity with Coulier. Though the pair publicly apologized after facing some outrage for the photo, Coulier denied any wrongdoing.

“[Stamos] knows what makes me laugh, and when he walked out like that, I fell on the floor laughing,” he said. “It wasn’t us making fun of others so much as it was: Let’s laugh our way through this because this is a tough journey.”

The actor has since become an ambassador for the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
