NextImg:Darius Slayton’s face said it all on disjointed day for Giants offense

Observations from the Giants’ joint practice with the Lions on Tuesday.

Remember Collin Johnson? He was a training camp sensation last year before a ruptured Achilles tendon in late August ended his season. The 6-foot-6 Johnson has had a relatively quiet camp thus far, but he owned the highlight of the day for the offense, hauling in a deep pass from Tyrod Taylor with Lions CB Thomas Starling draped all over him on the right sideline. Johnson also got his feet inbounds on a touchdown pass from Taylor. His size will keep him in the mix.

Darius Slayton looked annoyed with himself after a pass from Daniel Jones, which was thrown a bit late, deflected off his hands for an incompletion. The first-team offense was more disjointed than it has been all summer as it went against the Lions’ defense.

On the bright side, Sterling Shepard got knocked around some and showed his hands are as dependable as ever.

Darius Slayton showed some frustration on a played that summed up the day for the Giants offense.

It will be interesting to see how many penalties Jalin Hyatt draws as defenders grab and tug to stay with him. He caught a pass over the middle in a one-on-one drill despite CB Jerry Jacobs getting flagged for pass interference. Hyatt also might have been held up as a long pass from Jones sailed out of reach. Defenders must be wary of Hyatt’s long strides.

RT Evan Neal made the trip, but is still in the concussion protocol. DT Rakeem Nuñez Roches (groin) remained out. Two players recently removed from the PUP list, DT A’Shawn Robinson and OL Marcus McKethan, participated in individual drills as they ramp up their activity before they are placed in team drills. TE Lawrence Cager took a big hit over the middle after making a catch and went inside to be evaluated. He was able to return to practice.
