Here are some scoops from the Mets’ training day:
Danny Mendick went 2-for-4 with a homer leading off the game for the Mets in their 8-7 loss to the Cardinals at Clover Park on Sunday.
Mendick, recovering from ACL surgery, was signed to a minor league deal in the offseason to provide infield depth.
He is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Syracuse.
David Robertson allowed a two-run homer to Nolan Gorman in the fifth inning — a ball that Buck Showalter argued was foul to right field (replay review isn’t used in spring training).
Mark Canha started in center field — a possible precursor to Opening Day if Brandon Nimmo isn’t ready.
Tommy Pham is the Mets’ other primary option.
Justin Verlander is scheduled to face the Nationals in West Palm Beach, Fla.
