NextImg:Daniel Jones opens up to The Post on Giants divorce for first time

For pretty much six years, Daniel Jones kept his innermost feelings inside, safely tucked away, hidden from all but his closest allies, friends and teammates. He loved being the quarterback of the New York Giants, but that job and that position did not love him back.

The way it ended — with a benching then a self-induced release, and then gone, goodbye — could make anyone bitter or resentful. Being that Daniel Jones does possess real, human emotions, these feelings stirred within him. He did whatever he could to make sure he suppressed them. But they were there.

“Obviously it’s very competitive, you put your whole life into it, you’re very dedicated and committed to winning, to make sure it goes well on the field, playing at a high level, winning for your teammates, winning for the people in the organization, winning for the fans, and when it doesn’t work out yeah, it is certainly tough,” Jones told The Post after a minicamp practice in Indianapolis, where he is taking first-team reps for the Colts.

“Try not to hold any of that bitterness or hurt, hold anything personal against anybody, just knowing that’s gonna prevent you from the next step, from succeeding and learning what you need to learn wherever you are going next.”
