With training camp ramping up, so will quarterback competitions, and perhaps the most interesting one is playing out in Indianapolis.
After drafting Anthony Richardson No. 4 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Richardson has new competition behind center, with another former first-round pick, Daniel Jones, pushing him for the starting gig.
Oddsmakers at bet365 Sportsbook project Jones as the starter for the Colts, with the former Giant coming in at -115 while Richardson is the slightest of underdogs, coming in at -105.
The no-vig odds of Jones to be the Week 1 starter of the Colts come in at 51.08 percent, while Richardson’s chances come in at 48.92 percent.
Jones, who was the No. 6 overall pick in 2019, saw his career with the Giants come to a rather unceremonious end. The former Duke Blue Devil was battling injuries throughout the final two years with the G-Men and was eventually released, allowing him to join the Minnesota Vikings at the end of the season. Jones never played a down for the Vikes.

Jones went 24-45-1 with the Giants, accumulating 14,582 passing yards, 70 passing touchdowns, and 47 interceptions along the way.
He did have some success at one point, when the Giants went to the playoffs in 2022-2023, with a 9-7-1 record. Jones helped the Giants defeat the Vikings, 31-24, in the playoffs.
Jones played arguably his best game as a pro that day, putting up 301 passing yards with two touchdowns, adding 17 carries for 78 yards.
Jones was the first quarterback in NFL history to achieve 300+ passing yards, two or more passing touchdowns, and 70+ rushing yards in a playoff game.
Richardson hasn’t had much success in the NFL under coach Shane Steichen.

He is 8-7 as an NFL starter, putting up 1,814 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Richardson’s legs are undoubtedly his best asset, having rushed for 654 yards and nine touchdowns, but injuries began to pile up for the young starter, resulting in his relatively limited playing time.
