It was a tumultuous end to a problematic relationship for UFC President Dana White and his parents.
His parents recently died, he announced in a preview to Piers Morgan’s “Uncensored” interview on Thursday, which airs in full at 8 p.m. ET.
“My parents taught me a lot about what I didn’t want to be as a parent … and uhh … yeah. I don’t think I’ve ever talked about this, but my parents both died recently,” White told Morgan while stumbling on his words.
“I’m good with it,” White continued. “I focus a lot on my kids and my relationship with them, and I sort of put my relationship with my parents behind me.”
Morgan wanted to know whether he felt sad about his parents passing, to which White immediately responded, “No.”
“When they passed away, I had almost no feelings about it, to be honest with you.”
White said he took care of his father after he passed away by moving him up to Maine to be buried with his family, although it is not clear if he actually attended the services.
As for his mother, however, White said he had “nothing to do with any of her [service] when she passed away.”
White says he doesn’t like talking about his parents, likely in part due to his mother’s outspoken views on his life, detailed in her 2011 book about him, “Dana White, King of MMA: An unauthorized biography.”
June White also did an infamous and highly contentious interview around the book’s release, saying she didn’t “like the person he has become.”
She alleged that her son “puts Tiger Woods to shame” and that “his marriage is a joke” amid consistent cheating on his wife with UFC ring girls, “two of them I know for sure,” June White said.
She said that she wrote the book in an attempt to “bring him back or make him think about who he has become and what he does to people and the way he behaves.”
But she recognized at the time that she didn’t think “it has had that effect” on him.
“I find it hard to understand how the guy I once knew became someone who is narcissistic, self-centered, arrogant, and harsh as the fame of the UFC increased,” White said of her son.
She also claimed that Dana’s wife gave him the “worst black eye she had ever seen” after his 1996 wedding to Anne White.
On New Year’s Eve 2022, Dana and Anne White were caught on camera slapping each other at a nightclub.
However, as president of the UFC, Dana chose not to self-impose any punishment for his actions.
