Police allege that former Raiders defensive back Damon Arnette attempted to conceal a pill filled with meth inside his sock when he was arrested in Texas last month.
Arnette, who denied the assertions through his attorneys on Monday night, was pulled over on Jan. 6 at 1:48 am local time by police in Richardson, Texas for allegedly driving his 2021 Dodge Challenger 60 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
Officers claimed Arnette was “unusually nervous and talkative,” and called for a dog-sniffing unit.
Arnette reportedly told police that he did not have any drugs or weapons in the vehicle.
The dog reportedly signaled otherwise, and Arnette’s car was searched.
The search allegedly revealed a Glock 20 10mm pistol stashed beneath the passenger seat, and then a search of Arnette’s body turned up what TMZ describes as “a white and orange capsule with no markings inside Arnette’s left sock.”
Arnette reportedly told police that this was an Adderall pill, for which he has a prescription.
Police said that the inside of the pill was a “white, crystal-like substance,” that tests concluded was methamphetamine.
Monday night, Arnette’s lawyer, Jason Lampert of Salzano Ettinger Lampert & Wilson, LLP, disputed the police allegations in a statement to The Post.
“Legal counsel for Mr. Arnette, stated that the recent report that he was arrested for possession of methamphetamines and firearms is simply incorrect,” the statement said.
“Our client, at the time of the stop, was unable to provide law enforcement with his prescription for a lawful medication. The arrest was predicated on Mr. Arnette being unable to prove the medication was prescribed, had he been able to do so at the time of the stop, there would have been no arrest for either the controlled substance or the firearms.
“Our offices are working with the local law enforcement to rectify this matter before any charges are brought by the District Attorney’s Office.”
Arnette was the Raiders’ first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and appeared in 13 games, including seven starts, over two seasons.
He was released by the team in 2021 after a video circulated on social media that showed him waving a gun and threatening to kill an unnamed person.
Arnette has been arrested twice since his Raiders release, once in Las Vegas after he was accused of pointing a gun at a valet worker, and once in Miami on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license.
