And just like that… Cynthia Nixon grew emotional as she continued her pleas for a ceasefire in the Middle East on this morning’s episode of The View.

On Oct. 7, Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing more than 1,000 civilians and taking more than 200 hostages. Israel quickly responded with a counter-attack on Gaza and the two have been at war ever since.

Nixon — who recently completed four out of five days of a hunger strike in an effort to call attention to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war — opened up about her stance on the humanitarian crisis while speaking to Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

“I am the mother of two Jewish children whose grandparents are Holocaust survivors,” she explained. “And my oldest son in particular, he really has been reaching out to my wife and I and asking us — imploring us, really — to say, ‘Use your voice to affirm as loudly as you can that never again means never again for anyone.'”

The Sex and the City star added that “over 16,000” Palestinian civilians — more than 7,000 of them children — have been killed in Gaza over the last eight weeks, which is “more civilians than were killed by the U.S. and its allies in almost 20 years of war in Afghanistan.”

Nixon soon became choked up when she described the images coming out of Gaza.

“The children who have no water, who have no food, who have no homes, who have no shelter of any kind, weeping over the bodies of their slain parents,” she said as her voice cracked. “What Hamas did was brutal and terror and unforgivable but I don’t think we get to a better place with more civilian deaths.”

She continued, “That is why, in my belief, we need a permanent ceasefire right now. We need a permanent ceasefire to finally bring all the hostages home.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
