The Issue: Ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s run for New York City mayor after his COVID “leadership.”
My friends and family will wonder if I have sustained a head injury, but I am endorsing Andrew Cuomo (“Outs & ins of Cuomo backers,” April 7).
The alternatives should never serve in any office. Nonetheless, I am hoping that Cuomo serves his term behind bars.
The opposition to Cuomo’s candidacy properly cites his disastrous decision to require nursing homes to receive hospital discharges with COVID. The larger issue, too seldom aired, is that the Javits Center and the USNS Comfort were spacious alternatives that were not utilized. Cuomo chose to ignore these resources and that is why he should be tried and convicted of killing thousands.
I look forward to him fixing New York City from prison.

Cuomo has repeatedly refused to take responsibility for mandating the transfer of COVID-positive patients from hospitals to nursing homes.
The plan was intended to free up hospital beds needed to treat thousands of COVID patients pouring into acute care facilities. Yet, when the Javits Center was transformed into a US Army 250-bed facility, the USNS Comfort was docked in New York and a Samaritan’s Purse field hospital was set up in Central Park, their services were underused.
When finally on the hot seat, Cuomo and Health Commissioner Howard Zucker tried to cover up the numbers of casualties with fuzzy math, claiming they were following federal guidelines.

Why do you constantly bash Cuomo in his candidacy for mayor?
He is the most moderate of a group of uber-liberal, criminal-coddling candidates — the worst one being Zohran Mamdani, who is an antisemitic socialist.
Criticizing him constantly only increases the chances of moderate Democrats staying home on primary day, thereby improving the prospects of other frightening candidates.

Andrew Cuomo’s horrendous mismanagement of COVID took many of our loved ones away.
This error — his fault — has put a severe blemish on his run for mayor. It should disqualify him.

If Mayor Adams can’t win reelection, then Cuomo is the only option unless we want the city to go communist.
I agree he did terrible things with COVID, Raise the Age and more — but we have no choice.

The Issue: Last weekend’s “Hands Off” protests calling for action against President Trump.
The “Hands Off” protests against President Trump and Elon Musk seemed large in number, but ineffective in convincing America that the last several months were worse than the last four years (“Burning Fuse,” Karol Markowicz, April 9).
The screaming mobs offered no suggestions for attracting people to their cause, and only spewed hate at our president and his choice to investigate fraud and waste in our government.
The radical group-supported masses do not represent regular Americans, but instead look like people with time to spare, an ax to grind and nothing of value to offer the taxpayers of this country.

Millions of protesters marched across America and worldwide. Yet there was no extreme violence — no cops beaten or killed, no government buildings torched, no nooses hung or death threats issued.
Those who stormed the Capitol should take notes on how civil dissent is done.
