Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams was arrested on Sunday in Texas on drug and weapons charges.

Williams was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance after being arrested by Frisco police, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Citing a source, the outlet reported that the drug allegedly possessed was marijuana.

Recreational marijuana is illegal in Texas, even if it was procured legally in a different state.

The weapons charge is a misdemeanor while the drug charge is a low-level felony.

The Cowboys declined comment to the outlet.

Williams practiced with the team on Tuesday.

The Cowboys selected Williams in the second round of last year’s NFL Draft out of the University of Mississippi.

He appeared in 15 games last season.

A warrant for Williams’ arrest was also issued this past January, as he faced a reckless citation stemming from a scary car accident in which his car was totaled last December.

Plano police said Williams had been driving 98 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone shortly before the wreck.

Williams was charged with sexual assault while at the University of Mississippi, but the charges were later dropped.

“I’m confident that we know about the young man coming in here, that we’ve covered the ground and we’ve got it all out there,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on the night the team drafted Williams.

“After having seen it all out there, we drafted Sam, and I’m confident we got everything.”
