The Cowboys are already making work of their retooled wallet without Micah Parsons.
The Cowboys and DaRon Bland agreed to terms on a 4-year $92 million contract extension to lock up the cornerback ahead of the 2025 season, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday.
The deal includes $50 million guaranteed for the Pro Bowler and Bland’s average annual salary of $23 million makes him the sixth-highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.
The move by the Cowboys comes in the same week they traded Parsons to the Packers after a drama-filled contract dispute in Dallas. Parsons agreed to a four-year, $188 million contract in Green Bay.
Bland is going into his fourth season in the league. In 2023, he earned both his Pro Bowl and All-Pro nods to his resume after recording nine interceptions for 209 yards, along with a record-setting five pick-sixes while paired with cornerback Trevon Diggs.
In 2024, he missed the first 10 games due to injury and upon return, he struggled to put out a similar or close to result. In seven games, he did not deliver any interceptions.
However, he still exceeded expectations for the Cowboys, who selected him in the fifth round in 2022 out of Fresno State.
In the aftermath of Parsons’ departure, the Cowboys appear to be investing in their young talent.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said he hopes guard Tyler Smith is “the next one to get done,” per Rapoport.
Dallas also signed fourth-year tight end Jake Ferguson over the summer, agreeing to a 4-year, $52 million deal.
Bland previously expressed his interest in staying in Dallas and wanting a new contract before the start of the season.
The Cowboys made it happen four days before their season opener against the Eagles in Philadelphia on Thursday night.
