NextImg:Corey Seager has awkward interaction with reporter after winning World Series MVP

Corey Seager didn’t care to relive the past.

The 2023 World Series MVP shrugged off two questions Wednesday night from the same reporter regarding why the Dodgers did not re-sign him following the 2021 season.

“Hey Corey, I’m just going to ask you the question that I get texted the most, especially this whole series,” the reporter said. “Why did the Dodgers let you go?”

Seager, who also won the 2020 World Series MVP with the Dodgers, shook his head to indicate that he did not know why Los Angeles passed on re-signing him.

It appears Seager may have very softly said, “I don’t know” but it’s unclear.

Seager then looked away, seemingly indicating he wanted nothing to do with this question, and an MLB official said: “Other questions, we’ll go to Evan …”

But this reporter did not back down.

“You don’t have an answer?” he asked again.

Seager looked at the reporter, shrugged with a smile, and then turned away before looking at The Athletic’s Evan Drellich as he asked the next question.

The scene made for a cringeworthy moment from an otherwise memorable night for Seager, who etched his place in the sport’s history.

The shortstop is just the fourth player to ever win multiple World Series MVP awards, joining Hall of Famers Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson and Reggie Jackson.

Jackson and Seager, who previously earned the honor after carrying the Dodgers to a championship in 2020, are the only two to do so for separate teams.

“I don’t think you can ever fathom that,” Seager said, per ESPN. “It’s a pretty special group to be part of.”

Seager hit .286 with a 1.137 OPS in the World Series, smashing three homers and driving in six runs to help the Rangers capture their first title.

His two-run, game-tying homer off Paul Sewald in the ninth inning of Game 1 may have changed the series outlook for good.

    The 29-year-old went 2-for-4 in Wednesday’s 5-0 series-clinching win.

Seager joined the Rangers after leaving the Dodgers following the 2021 season, signing a 10-year, $325 million contract.

While Seager obviously followed the money, there were questions about whether he would enjoy the type of team success he had with the Dodgers.

Two years into the deal, Seager has a title while the Dodgers have been upset in the NLDS in each of the past two seasons.

“It truly is incredible,” Seager said, according to ESPN. “But it’s not just me, man. What this team did and how we competed and all the guys in there rallying, we don’t really have one leader. That whole clubhouse is the leadership.”
