Corey Perry officially cleared waivers Wednesday, one day after the Blackhawks moved to cut ties with the veteran forward, and his contract will be terminated.
Chicago GM Kyle Davidson addressed the 38-year-old’s status with the franchise Tuesday, saying Perry had “engaged in conduct that is unacceptable.”
Davidson did not disclose details of what he called a “workplace incident,” other than saying clarifying it did not involve other players or their families, and that any suggestion otherwise “disgusting.”
According to The Post’s Larry Brooks, the NHLPA is reviewing Perry’s situation and has 60 days to file a grievance once his contract is officially terminated.
Davidson said the team learned of an incident on Nov. 22 and immediately pulled him from the lineup ahead of a road game in Columbus.
The incident involved a team employee, per ESPN.
Perry has not suited up for a game since Nov. 19, deemed a “healthy scratch” by the Blackhawks.
The team’s investigation into the incident — and Perry’s status — was shrouded in mystery until the Blackhawks announced they were taking steps to sever ties with him Tuesday.
Chicago’s action comes with the franchise’s fumbling of the Kyle Beach sexual assault investigation, a matter that played into the handling of Perry.
“I think more than anything, it reinforced the resolve we have to change the culture and make sure we’re doing the right things and upholding our values and making sure that we continue to build a culture of accountability,” Davidson said.
Perry, acquired during the offseason in a trade with the Lightning, was signed to a one-year deal worth $4 million to play in his 19th NHL season.
A Stanley Cup winner and 2010-11 MVP, the winger had posted four goals and nine points in 16 games on the season.
Chicago moved to fill its roster void by acquiring Anthony Beauvillier from the Canucks on Tuesday night, and the Blackhawks beat the Kraken, 4-3.
“It’s definitely a challenging day for the guys,” coach Luke Richardson said. “I thought they were totally professional tonight, did their jobs and kept mentally strong.”
