NextImg:Corey Davis retires in Jets training camp surprise

Corey Davis is moving on.

The veteran Jets wide receiver announced he is retiring from football in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

“For some time now, I’ve been contemplating stepping away from the sports of football,” he wrote atop an image of himself among Jets teammates in a huddle in Atlanta. “This decision has not been easy. Although I am a deep person, I am a man of few words. I’ve been searching my heart for what to do and feel that stepping away from the game is the best path for me at this time.

“I have more blessing than I could have ever imagined — I have an amazing family, a beautiful wife and two healthy children that I look forward to spending more time with. I am truly grateful for all the opportunities I have had and will continue to have on my journey. Thank you to my family and friends and the Jets organization for supporting me through this process.”

According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, Davis told teammates of his plan to retire on Tuesday.

Davis has been away from the team for what coach Robert Saleh called a personal leave earlier in the day.

He came to the Jets in 2021 on a three-year, $37.5 million deal that he struggled to live up to after breaking out with 984 yards and five scores with the Titans in 2020.

Davis finishes his Jets tenure with 1,028 yards with six touchdowns on 66 catches over two seasons.

In six NFL seasons, Davis made 273 catches for 3,879 yards and 17 TDs.
