A Texas cop allegedly swiped thousands of dollars in cash from the glove box of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run late last year, authorities said Wednesday.
El Paso police officer Ruben Morales, 25, is facing termination from the force over the alleged Dec. 13 theft, his department said in a news release.
Morales allegedly swiped the dough shortly after arriving at the scene of the crash.
The owner of the car quickly alerted police that money was missing shortly after the incident, leading to an internal investigation.
Following the probe, investigators determined money had disappeared from a locked glove box and a small bag that was left inside the vehicle, El Paso police said.
Morales, who has been with the force for two years and lives in El Paso, is facing a theft charge. It’s unclear how much he allegedly stole, but the charge is for an amount between $2,500 and $30,000.

“The El Paso Police Department reaffirms its commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability within its ranks,” the police force said in a statement. “Any actions inconsistent with these standards will be thoroughly investigated and addressed accordingly.”
His bond was $5,000 following his arrest.
