NextImg:Coolio’s cause of death revealed

Coolio died due to a fentanyl overdose.

His family’s spokesperson, Jarel “Jarez” Posey, told TMZ on Thursday that the “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper also had traces of heroin and methamphetamines in his system.

Just like some of his closest friends suspected, investigators believe his “severe asthma” combined with the long-term use of cigarettes also contributed to his death on Sept. 28.

Despite the difficult news, Posey says Coolio’s seven adult children — Brandi, Jackie, Melan, Christopher, Artis III, Darius and Artisha — hope to honor his legacy through his music as well as some sentimental new jewelry.

A month after his death, the family announced that they made necklaces with their father’s ashes inside.

Each child was able to personalize their pendant with an inscription, keeping his memory close to their heart.

Not only that, but the rapper — whose real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr. — died without a will, leaving his kids to inherit his $300,000 estate, which included all of his “personal property and demand deposit accounts, financial accounts, insurance policies and royalties.”

Coolio was found unconscious on the bathroom floor of a friend’s house in Los Angeles last year.

EMTs reportedly tried to conduct CPR for 45 minutes and originally thought he had suffered a cardiac arrest. He was 59 years old.

His sudden death caught those closest to him by surprise, including Monte Jordan who saw the rapper just one week before his passing.

“We do concerts together, so yeah, it’s heartbreaking,” the “This Is How We Do It” singer told Page Six in September.

“I’ve been with him for weeks and for months now and I did not know — and still don’t know — the circumstances behind his passing, but I did not see anything that would have given an indication that he was ill or that anything happened to him,” Jordan added.

“That’s my friend and I love him and I haven’t fully processed that.”
