PORT ST. LUCIE — Recently, I was having a conversation with Francisco Lindor about his track for the Hall of Fame.

He mentioned all the players that he “liked and respected” growing up, noting Carlos Beltran (who he called a “mentor”), Roberto Alomar, Derek Jeter, Barry Larkin and Jimmy Rollins. He said, yes, he would love to be elected to the Hall someday and “be remembered forever in the game of baseball.”

But he added it is not part of a daily obsession. “I am not going online and typing what they did and then finding my stats and going year by year.” He explained that is mainly because “their stats are going to be better than mine.”

Which is kind of true. But not completely. Which is what I learned when I went online and began typing. Lindor just completed his age-30 season and he stands in really good stead historically through that age, in general (especially among shortstops), but with the group he named, in specific.
