Washington Commanders offensive tackle Charles Leno Jr. missed team’s Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons after his wife suffered a miscarriage.
Jennifer Leno, who has been married to the 10-year NFL vet since 2019, revealed the devastating news Sunday in an Instagram post.
“Last night our sweet baby girl, Paitynn Maui Leno, gained her wings unexpectedly. She came into this world just like her big sisters, quick & fierce, & was such a little fighter,” Jennifer wrote in a post also shared on Leno’s Instagram account.
“Thanks to everyone who has poured so much love & prayer into us throughout this journey. Rest easy our sweet girl.”
The Commanders confirmed Sunday morning that Leno had been downgraded to out for the game in Atlanta.
Members of the NFL community have since sent supportive messages to the Leno family following the heartbreaking revelation.
“So sorry, Jen and Charles. Prayers for your entire family,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo expressed.
Los Angeles Chargers defensive lineman Nick Williams also shared, “So sorry for y’all’s loss brother. The Williams are praying for peace and understanding! In Jesus name.”
Leno, 32, and Jen are parents to three daughters.
She initially surprised Leno with the news of her pregnancy over the summer when he was at training camp.
A seventh-round pick out of Boise State in 2014, Leno began his NFL career with the Chicago Bears and remained with the team through the 2020 season.
He signed a one-year deal with Washington in 2021 before agreeing to a three-year, $37.5 million extension in early 2022.
Leno earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2018.
