Colts owner Jim Irsay is being treated for a “severe respiratory illness,” the team said in a statement on Tuesday morning.

“While this unfortunately means he won’t be able to perform with his band this week in Los Angeles, he is receiving excellent care and looks forward to returning to the stage as soon as possible,” the statement said. “We’ll have no additional information at this time and we ask that you respect the privacy of Jim and his family as he recovers.”

Irsay has not been seen in public in weeks, according to ESPN Colts reporter Stephen Holder.

The 64-year-old is usually one of the more-visible owners in the league, and is quite outspoken.

His band is called The Jim Irsay Band, and its next scheduled show is Thursday in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall.

The concert also includes a showcase of items from The Jim Irsay Collection.

The website for the Collection states: “Jim Irsay’s passion for rock music, American history and pop culture led him to assemble a robust collection of historic and culturally significant artifacts over several decades that together make up The Jim Irsay Collection. An active philanthropist, Mr. Irsay hopes to establish a museum to share these treasures with the world.”

On the football field, Irsay’s Colts missed the playoffs with a 9-8 record after losing at home to the AFC South champion Texans in Week 18.

Irsay made headlines earlier this year for saying his 2014 DUI arrest stemmed from him being “prejudiced against because I am a rich white billionaire.”

He then threatened to sue “First Take” after host Kimberly Martin ripped him for his comments.
