Colorado is going in a different direction following its recent losing skid.

Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes have taken play-calling duties away from offensive coordinator Sean Lewis and are promoting analyst Pat Shurmur, who’ll now call plays, according to ESPN.

Lewis still has his job but is sharing a co-offensive coordinator title with Shurmur, per the report.

Shurmur notably was the Giants’ head coach from 2018-19 after having a stint leading the Browns in 2011 and 2012.

Outside of his head coaching gigs, Shurmur has held various roles in the college and NFL ranks, including offensive coordinator positions with the Rams, Eagles, Vikings and, most recently, the Broncos from 2020-21.

The Buffaloes made the switch amid back-to-back losses to Stanford and UCLA, extending a stretch in which they’ve dropped four of their last five games.

The losing skid comes after the Buffaloes started the year with a three-game winning streak as one of the most popular teams in college football.

Colorado fell 28-16 to UCLA in their last outing, capped off by Sanders ripping his offensive line after a poor performance, in which his son — starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders — was sacked seven times.

“Overall, we just don’t have the fight and the passion to do what we want to do,” Deion Sanders said. “The line has to improve.

“We have to have enough depth to be able to accomplish the goals that we set out to accomplish.”

“It’s really frustrating because I just need to get feedback just knowing what’s open and what’s not,” Shedeur Sanders added. “I just got to make my mind up faster and get the ball out of my hands quicker.”

Colorado, which is now 4-4, hosts No. 16 Oregon State on Saturday night.
