Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd’s ill-informed opinion crossed a new line this week.
In Tuesday’s list of 20 quarterbacks drafted since 2013 that cannot win a Super Bowl, Cowherd dubiously includes Dwayne Haskins, who was killed in a fatal car accident last spring.
The list may have needed a second proofread, as it also says, “QBs that can win Super Bowls,” when it should have said, “can’t.”
Cowherd was quick to catch that error, moments after he verbally listed Haskins as he read off a few names from the list.
“Teddy Bridgewater, Dwayne Haskins…. guys that are just not…” the host said on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” just before taking a long pause, seemingly realizing the blunder.
“It says can win Super Bowls, it’s can’t. Can’t win Super Bowls.”
The list confusingly includes guys who haven’t taken a snap in the NFL in several seasons, such as Josh Rosen, Johnny Manziel, Paxton Lynch and Blake Bortles.
Haskins, who set Big Ten single-season passing yards and touchdowns records at Ohio State, was killed after being hit by a car in southern Florida on April 9, 2022.
Eleven months after the fatal crash, Haskins’ wife, Kalabrya, and his parents filed a lawsuit alleging that Haskins was drugged, blackmailed, and robbed leading up to the accident.
This isn’t the first time that Haskins has been slighted by media personalities since his death.
Former Jets coach Rex Ryan, on an appearance on “First Take,” immediately knew he made a mistake bringing up Haskins in an October debate.
“I also said Daniel Jones would be the second quarterback drafted when he came out, ahead of this guy Haskins that everybody raved about, that I knew would struggle in the National Football League,” Ryan said.
Stephen A. Smith interjected, “God rest his soul, regardless.”
“I know it, I shouldn’t have said it,” Ryan said immediately after.
Unlike Ryan, Cowherd seemingly did not admit the error and the list was quickly taken down by producers.
Haskins was the No. 15 pick of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Commanders.
He played two seasons in Washington before signing with the Steelers before the 2021 season.
