TORONTO — As the Yankees inch closer to the trade deadline, it is almost a guarantee that none of the deals they make will be quite as good as the one they swung with the Cubs this winter.

Now they just have to figure out how to keep Cody Bellinger around beyond this season.

Bellinger, acquired with cash for Cody Poteet (who has since been designated for assignment) in a salary dump back in December, has been just about everything the Yankees could have hoped for.

While the typically sure-handed fielder lost a ball in the sky that turned into a costly triple during the Yankees’ 8-4 meltdown against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, Tuesday’s game was a better example of the way he has played especially of late.
