A coach and a referee squared up in a wild brawl on the court during an AAU basketball game on Saturday.
A parent in the crowd shared a video of the altercation on Twitter, and said the incident took place during a contest at Spooky Nook sports complexes, which has three locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The video shows a female referee trying to separate the male coach from the male referee, whose fight spilled onto the court while the youth players stood and watched.
The coach — in a white collared shirt and dark pants — appeared to chase down the referee, who was seen squaring up with his fists in the air.
Both men were seen swinging at each other before the coach was filmed pushing the female referee away from him.
One youth basketball player attempted to pull the coach away, while other parents nearby stormed the court.
Someone can be heard yelling “holy s–t” as the fight spilled into the middle of the court.
“The opposing team coach swung at the ref,” the parent (@Martin_lynne), who posted the video wrote on Twitter.
“Coach was thrown out.”
In a separate tweet, she wrote: “Coach was escorted out by many security officers, I just didn’t include that part. The team forfeited and didn’t play today.”
According to a statement from Loudoun Basketball Academy, the game took place during the Hoop Group Spring Jam Fest at Spooky Nook.
“While we are greatly disappointed in the actions of the opposing coach and official during a Team Attack game at the Hoop Group Spring Jam Fest on April 29 at Spooky Nook, we want to thank our coaches for their quick response in removing players from the court and keeping their focus on their players,” Loudoun Basketball Academy board of directors said in a statement.
“We appreciate that Hoop Group immediately ended the game, with the opposing team being removed from the tournament.”
The LBA board of directors said it’s working with Hoop Group to address the issue.
It is unclear if police were called, or if anyone was seriously injured.
For concerns, LBA said to reach out to admin@lba-attack.org.
