The Brooklyn Bridge survived a close call Wednesday morning after it was struck by a crane that damaged an I-beam underneath its iconic Gothic frame.

The accident came as the crane was being carried by a barge passing through the East River just after 8:30 a.m., officials said.

“A crane barge was traveling underneath the bridge and a crane struck a track system underneath the bridge for the maintenance,” said Michelle Krupa with the Coast Guard Operations Unit.

The damage was not structural and “didn’t impact the integrity” of New York City’s oldest and most storied suspension bridge, according to the FNDY.

“Not serious damage, it did look like some damage to the track system,” Krupa said.

No one was injured.

The incident remained under investigation, officials said.

In 2014, a cargo ship collision with the 1883 span resulted in traffic closures and evacuations of its famed walkway.
