Clint Frazier is returning to the diamond.
The former Yankee signed with the Charleston Dirty Birds of the Atlantic League on Thursday after failing to catch on with an MLB franchise this spring.
The 29-year-old outfielder is looking to get back to the big leagues after a tumultuous start to his MLB career.
Frazier, the No. 5 overall pick of the 2013 draft, who spent years at the top of prospect lists, was traded to the Yankees from the then-Indians in 2016 in a deal that sent reliever Andrew Miller to Cleveland.
After debuting in 2017, Frazier split time between the minors and majors until the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, when he hit .267/.394/.511 with eight home runs in his best season in pinstripes.
That performance helped him land the Yankees’ Opening Day left field job in 2021.

But several injuries, including multiple concussions, and disappointing performances on the field that season led to his release by the team in November 2021 after five up-and-down years in the organization.
Since leaving the Bronx, Frazier has spent time with the Cubs and White Sox, in addition to a minor league stint with the Rangers, but still hasn’t found his footing as a big leaguer.
Last June, when Frazier made his return to Yankee Stadium with the White Sox, he called his time in New York “more good than bad.”
“The biggest thing for me is, we don’t always get along with our coworkers,’’ Frazier said. “For me to be in a new environment was needed. For me and maybe some other people. I don’t say with any ill will. Not everyone likes each other.”
Frazier struggled during 33 games on the South Side last season, slashing .197/.303/.242 over 76 plate appearances before being sent down to Triple-A in July.
