Comedian Chris Rock attended the USC men’s basketball home opener, where the Trojans surged past Cal State Bakersfield in an 85-59 win — but that wasn’t the biggest part of his night.
Shortly after, Rock was seen hanging out with USC’s star quarterback and consensus top 2024 NFL Draft prospect Caleb Williams.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Rock is a Jets fan, so he spent his time with Williams trying to persuade him to find his way on the Jets come next season, according to a video posted by USC assistant athletic director Gavin Morris.
“The Jets, that’s who you want so bad,” Rock said to a laughing Williams. “You want the Jets. You don’t want to go to Chicago. You don’t want to go to the [Commanders].
“You want the Jets. There’s no place you would rather play than the Jets.”
The only problem for Rock, however, is that this would be difficult to execute.
With a 4-4 record heading into Week 10 of the NFL season, the Jets are in place to receive the 16th overall draft pick, way too late to select Williams.
With Aaron Rodgers set to return sometime either later this season or next, it’s unlikely for the Jets to trade up for a top pick to select the USC quarterback.
Through 10 games for the Trojans this season, Williams has led his squad to a 7-3 record and is approaching 3,000 passing yards.
The 2022 Heisman winner is projected to be drafted by the Cardinals, who are tied for the worst record in the NFL at 1-8.
If the Jets somehow were to land Williams in the draft, he would be the third USC quarterback to be taken by the Jets in the first round since 2009, after Mark Sanchez and Sam Darnold.
Despite both being top picks, Sanchez and Darnold largely did not live up to their pre-draft hype.
Following the Jets’ abysmal 27-6 loss to the Chargers on Monday, fans are desperate for a change on the offensive end of the ball.
Many point to Zach Wilson, who has been set with the task of filling in for Rodgers after his Week 1 Achilles injury, as the reason behind the team’s offensive struggles.
Although Achilles injuries are typically season-ending, Rodgers is attempting to make a comeback for later this season.
